I have 2 TP's that I love. What would be the best way to have one hard drive in each machine, and be able to switch machines every so often and update the drives so that they both have the same info?
In other words, If I leave this machine and use another, all the stuff saved on the other machine will need to be transferred back to this machine when I return to it.
I have been swapping the hard drive between machines but they don't work that well because One machine is pata and one is sata. SO I have to put the sata drive in the ultrabay slot of the pata machine and it takes much longer to boot. I'd like to have a pata drive in the pata machine and the sata drive in the sata machine.
I thought maybe a usb harddrive with some type of drive backup system.
Any ideas? Or is this just impossible and I need to use only one computer.
It is a shame because I have a 2007 model t43p uxga that I love, and also a t60p uxga. I feel that if I don't use the T43p now, I'll never get to use it, because it will become obsolete. I like the t60p because it has the ssd and runs like a bat out of hell. (the same ssd in the ultrabay adapter of the t43p does not run as fast and booting takes 300% longer.) I thought of maybe getting a pata ssd for the t43p.
what's the best way to syncronize 2 thinkpads?
Re: what's the best way to syncronize 2 thinkpads?
Are you running Windows 7 on both machines? If yes, you could simply use W7's internal backup utility to write to an external USB drive and restore to the other machine while switching. Just choose the files and folders you want to backup and restore. This can be done on a set it and forget it schedule as long as the USB drive is available. You can even backup the entire drive, but that would seem counter-productive for your purposes since drivers and HAL would be different for the T4X and T6X. I can predict BSODs in that scenario.

There are probably hundreds of backup and restore options/applications/hardware out there, this is just one. There are online sites that offer this service as well.
