XPp won't shutdown or logoff user

#1 Post by Ogg » Sun Mar 13, 2011 12:11 pm

XPp won't respond to a Shutdown, or a Logoff User. The TP just refreshes the screen and nothing happens. I can go into Hibernate (which I configured my Laptop to do) when I press the Power button. I can also force a hard shutdown by holding the Power button, but I would like to avoid doing that.

I also noticed that I don't get the green pop-up screen confirmations for the Fn-hotkey functions anymore. The actual functions work, but not the pop-up displays. Where can I configure the hot-key display to come on? (I seem to remember doing this a long time ago, but I can't think of where the setting is now). Not sure when the latter stopped working, or if the matter is related to the Shutdown/Logoff problem.

Googling the post title gives a lot of information about this, and does seem to point to a trojan. Run Malwarebytes which may help.

It found the following:

Files Infected:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\secushr.dat (Malware.Trace) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

When it was removed, the hotkey display started working right away. The Shutdown and Logoff User works now too.

Now.. I wonder how (and when) did I ever acquire secushr.dat?

Thanks for the tip.
