T20 Restart Problem

#1 Post by Rickybee » Wed Mar 23, 2005 10:44 am

Hi,
I purchased a T20 (2647-84U) a while ago, with XP Pro installed, and it works great except for one small issue and I was wondering if anyone else had come across this.

The computer will start up and run just fine but if you're in windows and restart the computer it will lock up everytime during startup with the XP logo on the screen and the bouncy blocks going back and forth. The only way to get out of this is to unplug it and remove the battery.

If I shut down the computer from within windows and turn it back on it works fine.

This isn't a major issue but if anyone has any ideas how to solve this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Searching previous posts again I see that I am not the only one with this issue, I didn't see it on my first go around, but they didn't get a resolution to the problem.

Here's the other thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... hlight=t20

Checking the boot log the last entry after a failed restart attempt is pointing to kmixer.sys as being the culprit. Does this give anyone a clue?

Thanks

Do you have all of the drivers installed? This includes the battery maximizer, ACPI power management & XP OS Supplement Files from the IBM website... They often get left out but are needed to prevent quirks..

The T20s do not have any issues running XP, so if that does not help I would look at other software issues. If you do not have anything important on the unit you could always format & reload..
