T43p and long preboot time

#1 Post by lukee » Sun Mar 20, 2011 8:20 am

Hello,
I just noticed, that my T43p takes ~30 - 40 seconds after power-on until boot is initialized. That time I can see IBM logo, after it the HDD is initialized (I can hear HDD's spin-up and seek sound) and ThinkPad booting normally. I've tried it with Samsung HM160HC HDD as well as with Hitachi 7K100 with IBM firmware - the delay is present with both. I am using TTaV134's modified BIOS to eliminate error 2010. Thanks for your suggestions.

What happens if you put the hard drive first in boot order in BIOS startup?

I've disconnected USB multi-card reader from docking station and delay is gone.

glad you figured it out.
i saw a delay like that on a used r50p once. went away once i removed the built-in ethernet interface from the boot order in bios. i think i also disabled an item like "update rom over lan".

I remember I had the same issue with my t41 (sorry I did not remember in time to help you), but I had a usb card reader that would delay the boot if it was installed in the system on startup.

Yes, this was also my problem. Interesting is, that no SD card was inserted and delay was present. But I'm glad that I know the root cause now :)

I don't have the T41 anymore, I was just wondering if the delay was still present when there is a card in the reader? (if it's not too hard to test)
