New T42p (2373-GVU) up and running

#1 Post by asiafish » Wed Mar 23, 2005 4:16 pm

Wow, this thing is REALLY fast, and appears very well-made. I put it side-by-side with my T22 (which was just sold to a soldier in my reserve unit) and build quality appears about the same.

What I really can't get over is just how small and light it is, even with the 9 cell. Speaking of the 9 cell, I think that is my only flaw, mine wiggles just a bit when in the slot. Probably won't complain about it as the rest of the machine appears perfect, though I'll watch it closely and possibly swap it out before the year is up if it gets any worse.

No dead or stuck pixels (Thanks Bill!) and the Thai keyboard feels just as good as the old T22 keyboard did, while the Samsung LCD is actually brighter and higher contrast/better saturation than my T22 LCD, which was just replaced about a year ago. Not sure I like the SXGA+ yet as the start button and icon text is very small, but I'll leave it set to default for at least a week and try to get used to it, before cranking up the font size.

Thanks to the helpful folks on this list and an easy transaction with Kevinh, I ditched the Ultranav palmrest and installed a plain smooth one, which both firmed up the feel of the palmrest (sturdier) and cleaned up the laptop's looks.

Now all I need is to find the right case and I'll be all set.

Thanks to everyone on this list, it was through reading all of the discussions on various T42 and T43 models that helped me pick what I wanted. Oh yeah, "The Sith Lords" and "Rome: Total War" both run beautifully.

Sounds great, use it in good health and enjoy Andrew.

The drive should be there by tomorrow at the latest.
