Hard drive upgrade

#1 Post by Daskew78 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:33 pm

Hi,

I have a T41 - 2373

It has about a 40GB hard drive (IDE) and I would like to upgrade it.

Could anyone tell me if I could upgrade this to a 7200RPM drive and what the maximum size it would allow if so?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,
welcome to the forum!

You have many choices, here is my advice:

1) nice velocity & capacity provides Western Digital WD3200BEVE (320 GB IDE, 2x 160GB platter, pretty fast)
2) fastest 7200rpm HDD for T41 would be Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 HTS7201010G9AT00 (nice access times)
3) if you prefer cool and quiet run of your HDD, get Samsung HM160HC (160GB IDE, 1 platter drive, pretty fast)

Cheers.

the largest pata/ide drive i ever owned was a 160gb/5400rpm hitachi travelstar, but for my t43's i opted for the faster 100gb/7200 drive. they got pretty pricey as the t43 was happiest with fru drives.

This is history, see the link in my signature

But if the user tends to use stock BIOS, aftermarket Hitachi 7K100 is flashable with IBM's HDD firmware.

I'm not aware anybody makes 7200 RPM IDE drives any more (the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 was a nice drive). You'd be better off with a new higher capacity 5400rpm drive in your T41 than a used 7200 RPM drive. There's not a lot of difference in speed with the higher transfer rates of the newer drives.
