T-22 possible hard drive problem & ? about HD upgrade

#1 Post by AlNasty » Thu Mar 24, 2005 7:15 pm

A friend has a T-22, and a few months ago it crashed with a message to the effect of "hard drive failure". I had a hard time reformatting the HD, but magaged and reloaded the OS. It was good for a while, and then I got a call that after it got past the POST, Windows would not boot and there was a message that some file was missing.

I reformatted it and loaded XP, virus stuff, etc, and used it for about 5 hours without a hitch. The next day I got the call that Windows will not load and its missing a file. I am thinking the HD may have an issue. Anyone have any thoughts?

My other question is if it needs a HD, I am seeing many to choose from,
obviously the faster the speed, larger the size and bigger the buffer the better. What I am unsure of is in the T-22, will a ata 6 or ata7 work, or does it need to stay with a ata 5?

Thanks for any help

You can try to low-format harddisk. But all data will be delete.
T22 use 440BX chip, support DMA33 mode only. But high speed harddisk compatible for DMA33 mode.Your thinkpad can support harddisk which capacity less than 100G.That's my point.
Mine T20 used WD scorpio 40G DMA100 HD.

AlNasty,

Why you're continuing to screw around with that drive is completely beyond me. Have you run any type of Drive Fitness Test on it?

The T22 can use any HD presently on the market, even the latest 100GB. Don't worry about ATA levels, all new drives are backwards compatible with older systems.

Get a new drive!
