Paid the standard Mastercard discounted website price of $1489 in Feb. Then when IBM reduced the price to $1439 in Mar, I received $48 back with their 30day price guarantee.

Quality computer.

I paid US$1850 for mine in August from some random website, at that time the shipping from IBM was a 2 week wait for the 2378-fvu and I found some random website using froogle that happend to have it for about $150 less than IBM. Infact I was able to buy 1gb of ram from newegg and only paid a little more than the 256mb model would have cost direct from IBM.

you are lucky that your friend brought this back to vn for you. Unless he lives in states that have no sale tax, the tax for the machines are more than $100.
$1700 seems like a price people here in US pay anyway.
