t43 multiple HD configuration
t43 multiple HD configuration
So I've found random info on this but a lot of it is older and makes it hard when dealing with modern HD's.
I'm interested in adding a 2nd HD to my t43 through the slim bay. Presumably would just use a 7200 RPM SATA. Any recomendations? Also, anyone have a source for 7200 PATA drives for the main HD?
Outside of that, what's a good configuration for best performance speed wise? Would having the OS be on the SATA and then files and PF be on the PATA work? Or other way around? Or should the PF be on same as the OS? I run WinXP Pro.
I have the updated BOIS that skips the 2010 error, so not worried about that as long as the drives function properly.
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome to the forum!
You have many choices and any 2,5" 9.5mm PATA HDD will work in T43's main HDD bay. To completely skip the 2010 ERROR crap, you can use modified BIOS which you can find in my signature. In UltraBay SATA adapter you can use any 2,5" 9.5mm SATA HDD - I'm using Hitachi Travelstar 7K500 there and it works perfect. Another choice is to rebuild your T43 to accept SATA HDD in main HDD bay - it is possible and well documented now!

Re: t43 multiple HD configuration
I'm still having trouble getting my T43 (2668) to recognise the newly cloned WD hard drive (250GB) Scorpio. I updated the BIOS which still gave me the 2010 error. I then used Lukee's modified BIOS which got rid of the pesky 2010 error. But on boot up the system sits there like a stuffed otter.
I cloned the original Fujitsu 60GB to the WD 250GB PATA. I know the new drive is good and the clone was successful (checked the new drive on another machine). I used Paragon's Drive Copy Ver 11.0.
I'm now at my wit's end. Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance.

LAZZA: I am not modder of the BIOS - I'm just pointing on it because many people asking on the forums how to get rid of the ERR2010. Original modder is TTaV134 member.
About your new HDD: if you put original Fujitsu back to main HDD bay, does your T43 boot then?

Re: t43 multiple HD configuration
@LAZZA: cloning needs to be done with the 'old' HD in a USB-enclosure and the 'new' HD in the HD-drive-bay in the laptop.
Lots of people on this forum (incl. myself) swear by Acronis TrueImage for cloning.
@davetop:
the largest available 2.5" PATA HD is the WD Scorpio Blue 320GB, from e.g. Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136345
Modern 5400rpm HDs are just about as fast as older 7200rpm HDs, and cause less heat as well.

Sorry Lukee - my mistake. All credit to TTaV134. Awesome!lukee wrote:LAZZA: I am not modder of the BIOS - I'm just pointing on it because many people asking on the forums how to get rid of the ERR2010. Original modder is TTaV134 member.

I re-visited the cloning, this time with Acronis True Image Home 2011.
Put the new WD2500BEVE drive in the T43.
Fired Acronis from a bootable CD.
Put original 60GB Fujitsu in the USB enclosure and connected to the T43.
Went into Acronis - where both drives were recognised.
Selected the Cloning option and carried out the task.
Re-booted, removed the CD and the USB drive.
New WD2500BEVE booted successfully with partitions resized.
Thanks to the many contributors on this topic which saved me heaps of time and money.
