T42 2378FVU or T43 266844U

#1 Post by cinna » Sat Mar 26, 2005 2:59 pm

I really can't decide between these two. The T42 is $1,210.75 (with 512 mb of memory, but no 3 year warranty. Do I really need the 3 year warranty?) and the T43 is $1,429.35 through epp. Which one should I get? My only gripe with the T43 is that its maximum resolution is 1024x768 and I'm worried that's too small. I'm not very experienced with computers so I don't know ... Is the $200 price increase for a T43 worth it?

Get the FVU with 256 and upgrade the warranty to 3 years, then buy a 512 stick from a reputable dealer and it will be a better machine than the 43 for about the same price, the screen difference is worth quite a bit. I personally couldn't care less about a 5% performance difference

T42 will be a better option

#4 Post by sonoma » Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:19 am

Of the two, I think T42 will be better with higher screen resolution. I used to have R32 which only had 1024x768 resol. but quickly got sick of it. I had been using R32 for more than three years but really don't recommend anything below 1400x1050

I agree on the resolution. I have an Apple PowerBook (12" - small) at 1024X768 and my old T22 14" was also at 1024X768. That resolution was just fine and I was totally happy with it, UNTIL my T42p arrived last week.

The 1400X1040 is just night and day, whether you want extra real estate or are viewing digital photos and movies, it is a dramatic improvement.

Even as an Apple fanatic (their OS is tops), I find that I'm using the T42p more than my PowerBook, which wasn't the plan.

Definately go with SXGA+ 1400x1050, but why don't you see if you can get a T43 SXGA+ laptop EPP? See FAQ in my signature.

There were only 3 models of the T43 available. Am I missing something here? I tried searching for the 266846U but no results showed unless I was in the education/alumni discount link.
