Re: T42 Fan replacement
Click on the HMM link at the top of this page, to download the Manual for the T42.
(scroll down to ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p).
All info with part numbers, pictures etc. is in there.

Re: T42 Fan replacement
Hi RealBlackStuff. Thank you for your answer.
There's a problem - TYPE 2374-Q1x doesn't exist in the Manual
that's why I am confused about FRU.

My question is - which fan should I buy according this TYPE and SN?

26R7860 if yours has a 14.1" screen
13R2919 if yours has a 15.0" screen
Why don't you check on the P/N or FRU on the fan that's in there now?

Re: T42 Fan replacement
Not sure if its the same part but i replaced the fan on my T43 a few months ago. it was only around £6 brand new (UK price). i had it off ebay. little did i know it was identical to the original fan.
it takes around 2 hours to fit it.
what i did notice when i removed the original noisy fan is that the fan actually lifts off its spindle. this would allow you to lubricate the bearing and refit it. one drop of 3 in 1 oil should do the trick
