don't do it
There are several ways to change the boot screen all of which are risky I would pass it is not worth the trouble if something goes awry.
Just to offer a contrary view, I followed the directions on here to change my BIOS boot screen, and it worked perfectly. The application encoded the image and told me if it was the right size before it would let me flash the EEPROM. I would say it's no more dangerous than updating the BIOS.
