T42 CDROM Access Problem

Just got my first Thinkpad, a refurb T42, and I love it. However, sometimes the CDROM doesn't want to open when I press the blue external button.....nothing happens. I have to restart to get it to work again. Seems to be a random problem. Any ideas on what this is? I've got all the latest drivers and updates from both IBM and MS. Thanks!

does it happen after you get a error msg frm using the cd you insert? like say you insert a cd to play video files and get a codec error or something...

i face the same problem (don't even know if you call it a problem)...but i observed that it only occurs after errors occur while reading the cd inserted...otherwise it's ok...not totally random.

my girlfriend commented that the drive seems intelligent...kind of a warning that the cd got problem...

I don't receive any error messages at any time. Forgot to say that my machine is a 2378 REU. I also tried the paperclip procedure but that didn't work either.

I searched the forum here and found that other people have had this problem. Seems that a common cure is to call IBM and have the drive replaced.....

If a thin paper clip gently pressed into the emergency eject access hole while the machine is on doesn't work, you definitely have a problem that warrants a service call.
