T40 lcd cable faulty?

#1 Post by gurkakrieg » Fri May 20, 2011 10:28 pm

Hi,

I was given an IBM T40. The old owner bought a new LCD screen and inverter cable, but when the LCD still didn't work, gave up and gave it to me. The LCD cable, however, is the original.

Symptoms: screen is bright white (function key brightness buttons can increase and decrease this) and a bright flashlight does NOT reveal dim image of screen. If I plug in an external monitor, the external monitor works.

Troubleshooting: I have taken LCD assembly apart and refitted the LCD cable twice now with no benefit. However, if I press on the upper left side of the LCD back, the screen comes on so long as I press and hold. The image looks perfect when I do this, but when I release, it goes back to bright white. This area of the screen is right above the cable.

My question: does this sound like a bad LCD cable? Something else?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds more like a poorly fitted inverter onto the LCD cable.
You'll need to take the LCD bezel off to reseat the inverter.
Download the HMM to take your T4x apart (fully illustrated): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46464
