Slow WLAN connection
Hi all
I own a T42 and an X31. My WLAN runs over a Planet access point. DHCP is on.
The X31 takes only a few seconds to connect when coming out of standby (connecting at 11 Mbps). The T42, connecting at 54 Mbps, often takes more than a minute to connect and sometimes even completely fails. During the connecting time the taskbar icon shows the moving yellow ball and the mouseover text says the network address is being obtained.
I have no idea whether this is a router problem or a problem of my T42. Can anyone repeat the problem? How long does a 54 Mbps connection usually take to be established after the T42 has come out of standby? Is it normal that 54 Mbps connections take that much longer than 11 Mbps to establish?
Thanks for your assistance.
Simon

802.11g should connect the same or faster. However, a few questions:
1. Are you connecting both 802.11b and 80211g network cards to the same access point alt the same time?
2. Are both machines using IBM Access Connections to connect with?
3. Is the WZC (Windows Zero Configuration) Service running on both machines?
Please add Location and other relevant information to your profile. Not required, but appreciated.

Thanks Leon for your reply.
(For other German-speaking readers: The service is called "Konfigurationsfreie drahtlose Verbindung" in German, it took me some time to figure this out...).
Kind regards
Simon
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I do not notice a difference.Leon wrote:802.11g should connect the same or faster. However, a few questions:

Yes. I recently installed the newest versions.Leon wrote: 2. Are both machines using IBM Access Connections to connect with?
It is on the T42. Dunno if on the X31 (I do not have it here at the moment).Leon wrote: 3. Is the WZC (Windows Zero Configuration) Service running on both machines?

No bother... others will find your thread useful. Yes, if Power Save Mode is set for the WLAN Card, you WILL have a longer connection time coming back from standby.
As an aside, in case you don't know and for others:
When connecting both b and g devices at the same time to a g router, the speed for ALL connections will drop to b speed (about 5.5 Mbs nominal). That is why I have both an a AND a separate g router (for my T42 only).
