fingerprint reader and domains

#1 Post by nomoredells » Wed Mar 30, 2005 12:08 pm

they want to uninstall the fingerprint authentication at work because of problems logging onto the (windows) domain (no support for that yet?).

Isn't there a way to logon to the domain using password but keep the fingerprint stuff enabled for other uses?

The FP reader can log a user onto a domain account, but this requires storing the user's password on the security chip, which some domain admins dislike, and makes it just a little different for users to change domain passwords when domain policies periodically require them to do so. This could generate calls to your help-less desk more frequently than IT people like (distracts them from reading junk mail, browsing and reading users' email, you know....)

However, we have allowed FP logins for domain users at my shop and the IT-stormtroopers here are as opposed to user autonomy as any IT people anywhere.

You might be able to allow the FP reader just for the power-on and HDD passwords, but this, too might over-exert the people at the help-less desk.

Thanks for the info  Actually my guys here are pretty cool but they said "it doesn't work". Can you point me to any resources for how to get it to work? Before they disable it
