My new (used) T23 is here

#1 Post by teamdaddy » Wed Mar 30, 2005 9:43 pm

The T23 that I ordered from TigerDirect came this afternoon. I have been sweating it quite a bit these past few days as I am almost always a little skeptical about buying something used. On top of that I have been reading post on this board and elsewhere about filthy dirty used laptops, laptops with dead/stuck pixels, and in some cases those that were DOA. I have never ordered anything from TigerDirect until now. As it turns out, all of my worries were in vain. The computer is immaculently clean. In fact, it looks like it has seen very little use. The screen is nice and bright, and with me looking at it from different angles, I can see no dead/stuck pixels. I'm not sure that's the way that you check for them, but it looks good anyway. It came partially loaded with Win 2000 Pro. When I turned it on, it started to finish the loading process. Everything went very smooth with the loading of the OS, and I encountered no problems what-so-ever. I loaded my DSL software, and went on-line to IBM and down-loaded all of the applicable updates to software and drivers. One surprise that I got was 256 megs of memory. On their web site it said only 128. The ONLY thing that I would consider a problem, is that I can't write/burn to a CD. It seems I have to have software for that. The Windows software referred me to IBM's site to load the CD software, but they no longer have it. I forget what it was called, CopyNow, CD Now, or something like that. I guess I'll have to go buy the software somewhere else. If anyone has a suggestion for this, I would appreciate it. Sorry for the long post, but I was just so relieved and happy with the purchase that I wanted to post about it. Thanks.
BTW, I'm not associated with TigerDirect in any way. In fact, I had never heard of them until somebody suggested I check their web site.

I got quite a few stuff from them and I had no problems so far.
Looks like since they need to keep a good reputation they make sure that most of the stuff that are sold online are that of good quality.
I would not be surprised if there is a department there that runs stuff on to ebay with some discrete name. Kind of like Carmax where they will only sell cars in good condition, anything crap goes to auction.

The cd burning program you are looking for is called "IBM RecordNow". Look for a "C:\IBMTOOLS\apps\recnow" folder and the installer should be there if it is an IBM preload of Win 2000.

Yes, I checked that folder, but it's not there. I also went to the IBM website and it is no longer part of their downloads. I'm just going to buy the disk. Thanks.

As it turns out, that particular file is an update. You had to have a previous version of the program to load it. Of course I don't have one. No sweat, I've already ordered another program and it should be here tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Well, shoot. I was hoping that would have worked for you.

Good luck with the other software program, and enjoy your T23!
