Update Connector and Thinkvantage link not working

Has anyone had any luck getting the Update Connector to work? Ive had my new T42 for a couple of weeks and it hasn't ever worked. Progress bar gets to about 32% and then an error message appears saying something about error at IBM help center. Is there any other easy way to check for updates for video driver, etc. without having to try to manually ID what versions I have installed and then compare it against what IBM lists as available?

I have a desktop link for Thinkvantage but when I click it I get a message saying it requires Macromedia Flash 7. I already have downloaded and installed in my Browers (IE and FireFox). I don't know what link is because I can't get it to work!
