Chipped

#1 Post by ccookie66 » Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:43 pm

Hello. One day I was typing on my ThinkPad, and this 'Mac moment' happened. (I call it a Mac moment because at my school this same thing happened to all the Macs) A piece of the frame just fell off! It is right below the right mouse button, and there is a chrome/metal frame of the underpart of the ThinkPad. I don't even know how this happened, I always treat this ThinkPad with care, and never slam the lid closed. How can I fix this? I uploaded some pics of it.

It's not at all uncommon for the palm rest to crack in that spot. I have a one that is cracked there too. Best fix is to replace the palm rest. Sometimes you can buy one in the forum market place, or eBay.

Would you happen to know how to take the palm rest off? I don't have much money now, so I won't be bring it to the repair dude.

I found out how to remove it. And I found a palm rest for sale on ebay! Looking good so far. Just one question, do I have to remove the keyboard to remove the palm rest?

If I'm not mistaken there are nine screws to remove for the palm rest to come off, and two of them are also keyboard screws. Two additional screws and the keyboard will be loose and easily removed. While not absolutely necessary to remove the keyboard to get the palm rest off, it does make it easier to remove both. I always remove the keyboard first then the palm rest, and replace the palm rest first followed by the keyboard.

Thank you very much! :D I will be buying this palm rest most likely and replacing it when I get it. Thanks!
