The T41 and 15"

Hi there

I just did a buy it now on eBay and purchased three T41's at £35 / $55 each complete including postage and packing. One for me, one for my girlfriend and one spare

The only specs I was given were:
1.6GHz Intel processor
256MB RAM (expandable)
40GB disk
DVD ROM
Windows XP Pro
15" screen

Now I looked in the (May 2005) tawbook but I see no T41's with a 15" screen. Could I (fingers crossed and breathe held) be getting some T41p? The T41p is not listed in this tawbook either so I can't check specs.

Were all 15" screens SXGA+/UXGA?

Do you have a link to the auction? You're right in that there's no 15" T41s. It's probably either a 14" T41 or a 15" T42 would be my guess.

That's a 14" T4x in the picture. 15" is a typo.

How can you easily spot the difference between a 14" and a 15" T4x from such a picture?
The same goes for bottom-only pictures.

One way to tell - if looking directly at the whole LCD display - the right hand side hinge is smaller than the left hand one. (On 15.0" models they are the same size)

Exactly, that right thin hinge is the best giveaway.

Also, the very thin amount of plastic between the the keyboard and sides of the machine also indicate 14" T4x, a 15" will have about 1/2" of plastic on either side. Furthermore, on a 15" model the M on the IBM ThinkPad decal lines up with the lower right hand corner of the keyboard. On the 14" models, the d from ThinkPad on the decal lines up with the lower right hand corner of the keyboard. There are other subtle differences. Crazy, yes.
