Anyone experiencing "sticky" keys?

I found a year-old t42p (14"), and the seller commented that some of his keys were "sticky" and had to be pressed harder to make an input. He went on to say that the new keyboards on the t42s were a disappointment, and that some people have had keys pop off completely.

Is this true, and common, given that IBM keyboards have historically been far and away superior?

Never heard of this being complained from members in this forum.
I have used mine for about 6 months now, for work and home and they are working very well like when first started using.
May be he is typing too hard.

Is it out of warranty? If it is not then he should get it replaced by IBM, unless he did something that void his warranty for his keyboard.

I thought sticky meant that once you press it does not come back up again.

May be he spilled somthing on it, like orange juice, or it is just filled up with dust and food debris from using it in a dirty environment.

My T41 started doing this today...

Both the 6 key and the I key feel a little strange and require a little tougher pressing from time to time...

Yeesh. What aphex is describing is what this guy selling his laptop is also describing. This doesn't seem like what I'd expect from a $2500 laptop!

I tend to think it's not about the price, it's about dirt, and that can get anywhere. You can try blowing crumbles away, washing it and then let it dry...
Crumbles and dust are inevitable.

That individual bbray is speaking of is myself.

Dvorak, you may be right. The x and left arrow seems to respond better than before now and has the same click and depth as the other keys. Now the right arrow key is not mushy, same click and feel, but requires more pressure effort to have it register onto the screen.

As crappy as my Dell Inspiron overall construction was it's keyboard worked flawlessly.

I've typed on older style Thinkpads and the T42 keyboard doesn't have the same solid feel to it. I'm somewhat disappointed at the new Thinkpad keyboard.

I'm sure I can call IBM to get a replacement, but doubt that'll change anything. It's not bad enough for me to go thru the effort of exchanging one...yet. If buttons start coming loose or pops off then I'll exchange for another one.

I'm a bad seller, lol, I'm supposed to be promoting the product that I sell.

I still think Thinkpads are great, but not without its own shortfalls. Other than the keyboard I have no qualms about the rest of the laptop.

Not sure if the keyboards you're talking about are China FRU keyboards posted in another topics. In that case, I think you can call IBM and explain the problem and tell them you want a Thai keyboard FRU instead. You can either choose to send your machine for repair or IBM can send it a new keyboard to you.

Oh IMO, IBM keyboard (Thai part number) is the best for feeling and endurance. My strokes are fast and hard and I broke 4-5 keyboards in the past (esp. Enter, Space and Shift keys) IBM's passes my harsh tolerance test

I used a whole lot of HP, Sony and Dell's before and IBM gives me the best feeling so far. Not that because I was an ex-IBMer or something
