Why did your frind have you re-install her OS? Was there a problem that this was supposed to fix? You really have not given us much information to work with, but I'm going to guess that the hard drive has developed bad sectors. Try this: remove the hard drive and boot from a CD. Live Linux, Windows install CD, PC-Doctor for DOS, pretty much anything will do. If the computer boots and run OK without the hard drive installed, well....then you have identified the problem component. If the problem persists, then we'll move on to another component.

she want me to reinstall OS because she think it have virus. i think it working fine, just "a little" slow.

actually i have a backup ghost image of her T42 from first time i install winxp on it. all i have to do is restore the OS from it. when she gave it to me at campus, i checked a little, it was fine that time. but when i turned it on at home, the problem appeared.

i tried hiren's boot 13 usb, it beep before i chose boot from usb, it can boot normal with the usb. i checked RAM with memtest84+, it's ok. i haven't check hdd yet. after get home, i'll do that.

update: i remove battery, turn it on and no problem pop-up! why is that?
