acs.exe - Atheros Configuration Service

#1 Post by none » Sat Apr 02, 2005 11:56 am

Hello everybody,

I did an update recently using the new IBM Software Installer. Everything is running great, but yesterda I noticed a new process named acs.exe, which is taking up more RAM and more virtual memory than anything else in the Task Manager.. I'd say typically it's at about 100MB combined. Is that normal? I don't even have my wireless radio turned on.

acs.exe is taking about 7Mb on my machine (Atheros {IBM} card). The biggest process on my box is QuickBooks at 37Mb (which I know to be a pig). Why is 100Mb normal? ... JD Hurst

ditto that. acs.exe is about 7-8MB on my t42p, ram and VM combined.

I had assumed this was the access connections software.

I was referring to his mention of a "new" process called acs.exe running as normal.... I don't believe he is saying that acs.exe is taking 100MB, but it is the largest of the TOTAL of 100MB in processes running on his system... IF in fact, his acs.exe is using 100MB by itself (I don't think it's even possible), then it is, of course, not normal!

P.S. My "biggest" is Firefox.... 109MB

No, my acs.exe is about 100MB itself... Any ideas?

In that case, I would completely uninstall/reinstall of both wireless drivers and Access Connections.

Indeed acs.exe sometimes uses a large amount of memory. Once it was about 50 MB running my laptop more than 24 hours. After a reboot it was about 5-6 MB.
