T43 to T42p display upgrade
T43 to T42p display upgrade
I decided to jump at the chance to upgrade from a SGA display in my T43 to a UXGA display from a T42p. I got the display (actually a complete lid assembly [and bluetooth!]), and just spent 2 hours installing it
Good news: It works!
Bad news: Not properly!
At POST, the right side of the screen is cut off. According to Windows 7 (in safe mode), the screen is being seen as a max 1600x1200 display. Not in safe mode, it only allows a max of 1024x768 to be set. In Windows in general, it's offset to the right (See here)
So, what's the deal with this?
T43 1875-DMU, if it matters. I was told this should just be a drop-in upgrade.

Re: T43 to T42p display upgrade
That's an Intel T43. I do not believe it supports a UXGA LCD.
Re: T43 to T42p display upgrade
Fixed a few errors in the first post, but...
... Crap. Why doesn't it? From everything I can find, the chipset should be capable of supporting it.Harryc wrote:That's an Intel T43. I do not believe it supports a UXGA LCD.

Harry is correct.
IBM disabled the UXGA resolution for internal LCDs on these boards.
There was a member who got it to work by a BIOS hack if I remember correctly, but only in Linux...
Good luck.

That's absolutely silly, why would they do that?ajkula66 wrote:Harry is correct.

I've found reference to that thread multiple times, but I can't ever find the thread itself. I'd be willing to go to linux (or possibly even figure out how to get it work on Windows) if needed, I just can't stand 1024x768.

In that case, get a T43 or T43p motherboard with ATI graphics.

Eh... What if I were to just get a SXGA+ panel from ebay, and swap it into one of my lids? Would the inverter/cable from the XGA work, or would I have to purchase the right ones for it? Specifically the N150P3-L01 one, it seems to be the most common one on ebay.
Re: T43 to T42p display upgrade
It's the cable that tell the GPU what resolution is needed. You must have the correct cable for SXGA+, XGA cable with SXGA+ panel won't work.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
Re: T43 to T42p display upgrade
Gotcha, what about the inverter? Is that reusable from XGA to SXGA+?Neil wrote:It's the cable that tell the GPU what resolution is needed. You must have the correct cable for SXGA+, XGA cable with SXGA+ panel won't work.
EDIT: And I suppose I should confirm, SXGA+ works fine on an 15" T43 with Intel video, right?

IBM never "officially" offered SXGA+ on any Intel-based T43 unit. That being said, some corporate orders were shipped with 15" SXGA+ IPS panels, and these were absolutely fabulous machines, I've owned (and sold on this very forum) several of them.
It should work. Whether it actually will...there's only one way to find out...
Good luck.
SXGA+ screens require a different inverter, a standard XGA can be used for testing purposes...but should not be made into a permanent solution.Gotcha, what about the inverter? Is that reusable from XGA to SXGA+?
