Thinkpad T43 Wireless Networks not detected

#1 Post by Interlagos » Tue Aug 09, 2011 12:24 pm

I have a T43 with Intel 2915ABG running Win 7 Ultimate and whenever I come in contact with a new wireless network for the 1st time, for some reason, it can't connect to them. After a few minutes, it will have 'No networks detected' icon shown in the Windows taskbar. It is only after I use System Restore, and set it back to an earlier date that it is able to detect and connect. Mind you none of the said networks is a 802.11 N-band, all are B or G.

Would you have any idea of what's happening? Intel's own website is rather unhelpful - I cannot access their driver updates for Windows 7.

That's because, and I quote from their website "The Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection is no longer being manufactured by Intel, nor will Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with third party devices and software products. "

Try a Linux Live CD to see if that connects consistently ...

Atheros-chipset based cards are a better choice for T4x series.
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/IBM_11a/b ... Adapter_II
Very good support in Windows and in Linux.
Current: T420
Previous: T400, T43p Flexview, T40, R52, T43p 14"
My first ThinkPad was 570

Would you suggest that I remove my Intel based card with an Atheros one? Does this entail flashing the BIOS?

Additionally, can I install an Intel-based card that supports 802.11N as well - would that be supported under Windows 7? Such as this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 97.c0.m619
Model no. not given

The actual card that you linked to is Atheros-chipped, and you'd need a modded BIOS in order to use it in a T43.

Standard IBM-issued Atheros-chipped cards do not require a BIOS flash or a modded BIOS.

There are no Intel-based mini-PCI "N" cards AFAIK.

Is there any major difference between Ambit and Bartlett versions of the cards?
