T42 ejects UltraBay device when you pick up or move it.

#1 Post by ichhabegedroppen » Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:46 pm

Hi there,

I managed to get the T42 that had the boot problem working, i have a clean install of Win XP pro and everything is working fine, except, i have noticed, if i pick up the laptop when its open, as soon as i put it back down on a table or something flat, the CD drive will eject. just to clarify, the ultrabay device is still working fine, just the cd tray opens.

I have never known any TP to do this before and just wondered whether anyone has any idea what could possibly cause this.

The CD drive doesn't do the same in my T40 or either of my T41s, but all the Ultrabay CD/DVD drives that i have will open the disk tray automatically when you move the system.

Would be nice to hear if anyone can think of a fix as i noticed this "phenomena" whilst re-installing windows which wasted 30 minutes or so work.

That's another symptom of a bad Southbridge chip.

will definitely be worth having that re-balled then, out of interest, is it likely that the SB fault could cause the display to flash on and off sometimes at start-up?

I believe the ATI GPU is fine, but if i'm going to have it repaired i might aswell have the GPU reballed too if its likely the GPU is possibly on its way out.

Thanks for your help.
