T43p intermittent LCD backlight - bad CCFL?

#1 Post by Amigaman » Sun Aug 21, 2011 10:50 am

Hi all,

There is a problem with my partner's T43p and I believe it to be the CCFL backlight of the LCD, but I was wondering if any of the experts here might confirm it...

Problem -

* LCD works fine on power up, but if the brightness of the LCD is raised to maximum, the LCD will turn off within a few minutes
* The LCD panel itself is working when this occurs, but the backlight is turned off
* Resetting the screen (by pressing the screen close sense switch) causes it to recover for a short while
* If the LCD is kept at minimum brightness, it will generally work fine and will not shut off
* Inverter was swapped, but no change to symptoms

I think that the problem is that the CCFL backlight is failing and at maximum brightness perhaps it overloads the inverter which causes it to shut down.

Thanks for any advice,

Ross..
