Suspend/Resume display failure

#1 Post by radiohead » Sat Sep 10, 2011 7:50 pm

I have a T42-2379 I salvaged from work. On resume from suspend, the video stays black. Fan starts, screen light will toggle off/on, so it is apparently running. But no other mouse or keyboard response. All drivers updated & installed, but alas, no luck. Bios has been updated. Only solution is hard shutdown with power button and restart from scratch.

The deets: Windows XP Pro, SP3; original wireless card would not take, despite repeated installs of Lenovo driver. Now has a TP-Link Wireless N card. Upgraded with 120G hard drive and 2G memory.

Any ideas? Help?

Remove the new wireless card and try to resume from suspend.

SOLVED

I didn't want to take my wireless card out, because that's my only real network connection, and I need it.

Instead, I got medieval on my display driver. I followed the gist of this post (http://bit.ly/dXHSYI) from a guy named "Damage" at Hardware Heaven. The post outlines these steps: remove video driver, restart in safe mode, use Drivercleaner to really scrub the drivers out, restart in normal mode, reinstall display drivers.

I had tried a plain removal and reinstall before, but it didn't take. Apparently, bad video drivers are very persistent. Good luck to you if you have the same problem.
