IBM T30, CPU is always 100% loaded

#1 Post by ctbert » Tue Apr 05, 2005 7:52 am

How can I reconfigure the setting, in order to make it back to normal?

Thanks!

I don't understand the question (please endeavour to make it clearer rather than just short).

(a) If the CPU is running at 100 percent (Task Manager), then it is not a setting, rather, something is consuming the CPU and you need to look at Task Manager and possibly Services to see what. Beware of spyware in this case and find AdAware (Lavasoft.nu), install it, update it and run it.

(a) If the CPU is running normally but is running a full speed (rather than a lower speed in periods of low usage), then use the ThinkPad power properties (Control Panel) to set your T30 on ThinkPad Default. That will cause your CPU to run at less than full speed most of the time. Yoiu can use Battery Maximizer as well if you wish.

Also ensure that your OS patch level is up to date. :).

Thanks for your information. Actually i checked using Task Manager, to ensure that there is no program running. However, the CPU is still loaded at 100%. Therefore, I agree with you that it might because of spyware. I installed spyware doctor (freeware), and scanned through harddisk, deleted some cookies. Further more, I also erased many unnecessary temporary folders, cleanning up my harddisk.

After all the above effort, together with a REBOOT, the system is back to normal again. I can see the fluctuation of CPU usage. However, I can't conclude any specific cause of the CPU 100% usage issue, due to the multiple measures I have attempted.

When you go to Task Manager...go to the Processes Tab (NOT Applications), and then click on the CPU Column to sort by CPU Usage. You WILL then see which process is running close to 100%.

If your T30 uses Battery Mazimiser, update that to the current version.

Now it's back to normal, so most of percentage are allocated to System Idle. :)

I've check next time if the CPU goes to 100% again.

THANKS for your valuable input!
