Thinkpad T42 fan - can I replace a short with a long

I ordered a short fan, but was shipped a long fan. They have the same part number 26R7860. UGH! In any case, can I replace the short fan in my T42 with a long fan?

Well, I decided to install the long fan to replace the short fan. The PC works, for now. Wish me luck. (Who said "patience is a virtue"? I didn't have much in this case with PC parts spread on my dining room table.)

who did you order the fan FROM..?
if IBM/lenovo then perhaps the fan you got is the correct replacement part for the fan that you are replacing..
they DO that.. in my experience though, they will assign a new FRU number for a part superceding an older part..
