1400x1050 to 1920x1200 (VGA or DVI)
1400x1050 to 1920x1200 (VGA or DVI)
I am near to buy an external monitor with native resolution 1920x1200, 24".
Should I run in any problem connecting my old t41p with native 1400x1050 resolution to it via a VGA standard cable?
What about the quality of the image, would a USB to DVI connection be a better choice?
(I see the USB-DVI adapters are not cheap, by the way..)

I'm not sure if the video processor will support that high of a resolution. If it does however, you may run into performance issues when scrolling webpages and that.
Might want to consider a different resolution/monitor.

I am still more confused now..
Just checked in the options of my ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 and the 1600x1200 resolution is already listed.
Could it be I don't need nothing more?

You should be able to do 1920x1200 with no problems.

is the VGA a good choice, or a USB-DVI would be infinitely better?

Re: 1400x1050 to 1920x1200 (VGA or DVI)
Actually, a better choice than any mentioned is to get a dock and run straight DVI to an external monitor.
Re: 1400x1050 to 1920x1200 (VGA or DVI)
just realized I actually have a dock for the T41p, that I never used..
Is this "old" DVI still ok? (is the white one I supposed)
now, if only I could open this T41p to change the fan... (it has a trapped screw)

What Harry says is correct. DVI through the dock is the best solution as far as quality goes. VGA is fine, but at such a high resolution you might already feel blurriness. USB is the worst possible solution, as it has nowhere near the required bandwidth for a smooth display at 1920x1200.

so this means that if I buy an X201s without a docking station, I risk the VGA connecton would not be fine..
that's bad, the docking cost a lot!
not to talk about the possibility to buy a X120e, that if I understand well does not have any docking solution...
is the convertion HDMI->DVI even to be avoided?

HDMI-DVI is a trivial conversion (it's the same signal in different form).
DisplayPort-DVI may require an active converter but it's still fine, because both are high bandwidth digital video connections.
The problem with USB is its low speed (USB2 is 480Mbps compared to 1650Mbps for single-link DVI).

I thought to have good english skills until I followed those links with such "specific" english termsRealBlackStuff wrote: "now, if only I could open this T41p to change the fan... (it has a trapped screw)"

Look interesting, just need a bit of time and an english dictionary beside me to get it all.

just in case:
would buying this "complete set" be a right choice in view of the "driilling out" operation?

Forgive my ignorance, but I've got minidock 2878 with T42-2373T64 and Win7. Can't get the external DVI monitor to activate. Please help me with the basics here. What am I missing?
