US Made T42P

Hello all,

I request any info you may have on this.

I am a Thinkpad fan going back to the T23, ( which I still have ).

I have several T4x units I have aquired over the years off Ebay. T40, 41's, 42's and 43's.

Today I received a T42P I purchased off Ebay. Laptop was in great shape, just needed a hard drive.

Looking at the botom sticker to my suprise was something I have only heard about on this forum.

The sticker reads;

Assembled in the US.

Machine type is listed only as "Type 2373"

No serial number, no wireless mac number.

Has XP Pro COA.

Thinkpad configuration utility shows Machine Type as " 2373VPE "

I looked this up on the Lenovo site and it says "Based on a CTO".

Serial number as displayed in the configuration utility comes up as not in the database on the Lenovo site.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this machine.

Probably an ex-government machine, or an ex-Lenovo testbed.

Former is likely to be without a wireless card.

The " assembled in the U.S" T4x units pop up through various liquidators every now and then. Both of VQ7s in my signature have the exact same script on the bottom, and I've owned many more...

Not common, but not impossible to find either.
