Okay Okay so that last wallpaper was super lame. This is the new thinkpad wallpaper I created and I downloaded a different theme to match. It's a little boring, but that's how I like my desktop, nice and simple.

If anyone wants the full wallpaper (1400x1050) you can e-mail me as it is a 4 MB download.

Created by compositing and tweaking two satellite earth images (false-color topography and nighttime city-lights). You can click on "Original" for the 1600x1200 UXGA version and resize as you need.

A simple CMOS boot logo, created to replace the default IBM one with owner and machine model information. If you've got a supervisor password and branded logo installed, it'll be tough for anyone stealing your laptop to resell (or, heh, use) it.

This'll work on any laptop...

It's for NT4 through XP.

It's designed to place info like CPU, IP address, and the like on the desktop by placing the text on a BMP, and then setting that as the desktop.

You can place any text you want there. It's easier than MS Paint, and allows better formatting.

However, it can also make such a BMP for use as a background for terminal server (read: Remote Desktop) and console logins. So, when you fire up my computer, you'll see the normal login stuff, and then at the bottom left, my name, address, and other contact info.

On XP, this'll only work if you use the old style login dialog - otherwise, you'll only see this for 0.1 seconds. You could change the login screen, though - there's guides online on how to do that.

This works better than changing the BIOS screen, as that only displays for a few seconds, whereas this displays until it's logged in.

While this is true if you're looking for a way to identify a system you're working on, in terms of laptop security, a custom boot logo protected by a user/supervisor password makes the system worthless to a thief, and may actually increases the chances that you'll get it returned to you.

The benefit of a custom boot logo is that you cannot remove it without 1) having a supervisor password (assuming you set one), and knowing HOW to flash a BIOS, and 2) it survives a reinstall of the OS, reformat of the HD, or replacement of the HD.

Someone who swipes a laptop can do any of #2, but cannot easily get your supervisor password to reflash the BIOS, and even if you don't have a pw set, it takes a level of PC familiarity to reflash a BIOS image that the vast majority of petty thieves just don't have.

Of course, the best solution is to ALWAYS have both a user and supervisor password set, along with a boot logo with your contact info. That way, nobody can ever gets past the boot screen, and they're reminded every time they try that they can return the laptop and at least get a token reward for doing so. In my opinion, after getting a laptop stolen, that's pretty win-win.

I don't really like it, sorry. All you did was take a poor quality IBM logo, duplicate it 4 times, and transform the duplications in random ways for no appararent reason. I rather just keep my desktop plain black.

Don't see what relevance two folks kissing has to do with a ThinkPad. Although the wallpaper has the same basic styling of some IBM materilals, the photo used would be more appropriate in an Apple ad I think.

That one I like alot. In fact, I think I'll even put that one on my ThinkPad once I'm done typing this. I think it looks pretty nice. The refection under the IBM logo is a pretty nice touch and the map is done nicely. I also like the bluish duplicate image of the contenents faded and streched in the background.

Has anybody ever considered an IBM Theme for Window Blinds? Black bars, and shades of grey almost like the hinges?

I got the idea when I recently upgraded to Firefox 1.5 and got the BlackJapan skin.

Beware your browser may resize the photo makin it look like crap. It really looks pretty clean. 1400x1050 resolution

All I see is IBM logos being warped.
