My Office Space

After several years of adding, adjusting, repairing and refinishing, my home office desk-space is finally about where I want it.

Although the bulk of what you see are related to my home-built, workstations (Windows 7, XPP) and a Windows Home Server 2011, this is also where much of my ThinkPad oriented work is done as well. On the left-hand side desk "return", is my X300 "daily driver" along with the ThinkPad Tablet (Android). The three monitors can be configured to be run via the main workstation or, the one on the left can display the server and the one on the right can display the Windows XPP workstation. The left-hand monitor is actually a 19" Westinghouse LCD TV with a 1440 x 900 resolution which is also a match for the X300 if I want to blow up it's image as well. It's attached to a switcher so I can also use it when I'm trouble-shooting another computer. The center monitor is a Lenovo ThinkVision L220x S-PVA with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and the right-hand monitor is an IBM ThinkVision L200p with a 1600 x 1200 resolution so they pair well in daily use with matching vertical resolutions. I generally don't use the TV/Monitor unless I'm doing a lot of copying back and forth to the server and need more real estate. I've recently started playing around with an Android App called iDisplay and can actually run the tablet as a fourth monitor if I like. It's really kind of excessive, but the concept works well when I'm playing music and have the player over on it for "touch" control.
The main system is run with Logitech Illuminated keyboard and a Revolution MX mouse, but the other systems have TrackPoint compact or Ultra-Nav keyboards. One image shows a stack of audio/video equipment that I have in the cabinet portion of the return that is attached to the main workstation. It's used to archive all manner of obsolete audio/video medium which include, vinyl records, minidisc, cassettes, 8-track and VCR tapes. You might have also noticed that there's a number little IBM momentos from my IT days. The latest addition is an Aeron chair that I was able to pick up for the proverbial song, but it took me 6 months of aggravation to finally repair it!
