T60p disassembly - Surprises inside

#1 Post by Tasurinchi » Mon Jun 24, 2013 5:32 pm

So, finally got a replacement board for my 15.4" T60p (with ATI 256MB) that had a dead planar, scratched screen, some broken plastics, and dirt, dirt, dirt everywhere...

Errr... wait a moment!

When pulling the structure frame and mainboard, there's a (tiny) dead spider inside

And then dirt...

... and more dirt...

and the spider again. Oh, wait! That corpse is below the transparent plastic cover :!: So is this a 2nd spider or just the other half?

Not nice how this T60p was treated. Luckily I had a clean T61 base cover in the basement. Also the replacement board worked perfectly and then I installed a WUXGA T61p screen I had lying around. So it was a happy end and my 5th WUXGA Thinkpad

Here is she, still not complete since I need a clean palmrest and keyboard:

Ha, I knew it!
You must be the guy Lenovo talked about on their Facebook site.

Love the pictures, I've had one that was about as nasty. Yellow dust and hairs everywhere, and a strong scent of cigarettes. Simply disgusting..
Glad you got yours up and running again. :)

I've also had TP's full of hairs inside. I found that more disgusting than the spider to be honest :D

You're right about that. I don't really like it when people mistreat ThinkPads like that.

That sounds worse than what Tasurinchi experienced :o .

IBM Thinkpad A31 2.0GHz Pentium 4, 768MB RAM, 40GB HDD and a ATI 7500 16MB shimmed
Lenovo T420 4236-PA8: WiFi card replaced with a Broadcom one (fixes most DPC latency), 64GB Crucial M4 SSD added as OS drive, original HDD in a DVD to HDD caddy.
