[*HUGE PICS*]Thinkpad 555BJ - The Printer Thinkpad!!!

#1 Post by jack_zhan » Tue Jul 23, 2013 10:36 am

Here is the ultra-rare japan-only Thinkpad 555BJ!

Heavily scratched case...
Image
But nearly new inside!!!
Image
Lift the keyboard to feed paper!
Image
The name plate and also the printer cartridge cover!

More detail photos to take with my DSLR. This unit is not working but restoration work ongoing! I will try my best to get it back to working condition!

Additional notes
Sticker on back says "Type 2437J". Another sticker under the keyboard says 2437-JWC.
The machine has a size-unknown SIMM installed. And a very clean empty coprocessor slot.
I love the idea that a battery pack is optional with this model. My machine comes with a fake battery, so zero corrosion and shining new battery contacts!
DC power is provided by a 4-pin connector, rating 20V-2A. Mine is nearly broken so I am looking for replacement. The connector looks like this, overall size approx. 1.2cm*0.8cm:
Image
If any one know this connector I would be glad to know how to get a replacement.

Simply stunning.

My hat's off to you, and the very best of luck with the restoration.

Please keep us posted.

To ilakast:

Great! Exactly what I need! So now add 555BJ to the 40W list please :)

To all:

I am now having trouble finding such things like HMM. Lenovo Japan didn't give me a acceptable answer. :? I am trying to contact some Japanese Thinkpad collectors. If anyone here lives in Japan, I would be very thankful to be informed.

Finding a HMM will be probably challenging...

I guess you've see these two links already, but just in case...

Yes you are right Tasurinchi  I have already see both...and many others from searching in google.co.jp.

Now I know the exact IBM publication number for the HMM is SY88-3041-00. I have sent requests to IBM and InfoCreate (a Japanese company that produced publications for IBM Japan) for the HMM. Now I can only wait.

Could anyone here contact IBM or Lenovo on behalf of me? Both of them offer only support through phone call, but I am in China and international phone calls from here can be very complex and expensive. :(

I suppose International Calling via Skype or otherwise is also not an option.

Far-fetched that you are still watching this forum OP (I noticed the last login was in 2015), but if you are interested I'd love to at least have photos of the machine (your Flickr links died) and I would be able to ask (and I probably will anyway) for the document you are looking for.

*Good work on finding that documenting code btw, that must have been he** in itself.

(I'm very sure Lenovo will not have that document.)

Best to you and happy new year,
madicetea
Given you are trying to repair the 555BJ, the best bet it actually to call Canon. They made the bubblejet machines under the NoteJet lines and I belive the NoetJet III or NoteJet 486 are just OEM models of the 555BJ. Same with how the iSeries are Acer machines.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
