Do you own some ancient IBM artifact or just an old gem? show us!

I'll start with my January 1995 IBM POWERdisplay 20 Trinitron monitor.

It looks grimly, but is in very good working condition, bright and vibrant, even convergence is good after all these years, it's just a little bit off in the corners.
IPS screens suddenly seem irrelevant (not really this baby is BIG and power hungry).

I'm very sensitive to CRT flickering, so I have run it at a modest (custom) resolution of 1200x900@87Hz, lower refresh rate then that and I see flicker, even at 85Hz.

Watching smooth 3D graphics at 1024x768@100Hz is amazing!! if you are a kid who has never experienced a 100Hz quality Trinitron monitor, you have missed out on something wonderful.

I decided that this monitor is now so old, that if I want to use it, now is the time, I'll run it to death and hope it'll be a long run.

Nice CRT! I do love the waves IBM monitors had, that logo on top left is like the one on a Model M keyboard.

That Model M looks like it might have been sold with the same systems as the POWERdisplay monitors.

The headphones are AKG K240DF's, first introduced in the mid 80's, as far as I know, the first "diffuse field equalized" headphone to reach the market.

Well as long as yo don't bash your users with CRT monitors

But don't worry, there are much worse things then a BOFH (from the users perspective), and that would be a burned out admin, who simply doesn't care anymore.

Sometimes it feels like it's getting close to burnout time for me and other times I simply love my job. It's the users and their silly little requests that bother me. But getting to play with HyperV clusters, SAN's, NAS's and so on makes the other problem worthwhile. The biggest helper is my PFY. Without him to intercept 85% of the user questions I am sure I'd be on the run from the long arm of the law by now. "Bean counter found dead in office, server motherboard sticking out of his skull" would surely be the headline, I think.

That being said I love IT Management, project planning and implementation. What I love even more is being a consultant. I get taken out to lunch and dinner, get free gear (and a lot of t-shirts), do a lot of talking and spending (their money). I love not being trapped in a cubicle. In a given week I will travel to about 8 different cities to meet with my clients and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Glad you caught the BOFH reference. Not that many people know what I am talking about whenever I drop BOFH references.

Oh my would you look at that KEYBOARD (also the 24" Sony Multiscan GDM-W900 Trinitron monitor).

It doesn't get much better then this, the 21" IBM P275 FD Trinitron monitor.

Personally, I'd probably prefer the IBM P200/201/202 though:



From what I have seen, the older Trinitron monitors, that are only flat in the vertical plane, have brighter and more vibrant colors.
The flat FD Trinitron monitors usually do higher resolutions/refresh rates, have better image geometry, and are not as old.

The IBM/Lenovo ThinkVision C220p 22" Monitor must be the last CRT model before people started throwing these things away, rather then buy them.

I don't think it's a FD Trinitron tube, but rather a Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube in there (very very similar).

Edit: there is one monitor of interest I forgot to mention, the 21" IBM P260 FD Triniton.

Those are fully restored AKG K240DF's, with all new drivers and plastic.

I still have two M series keyboards from early '90's PC's. I wish I still had the keyboard from my Aptiva 166.
