A collection of Thinkpads (Pictures)

#1 Post by x220 » Tue Oct 28, 2014 4:56 pm

Hi all, I've seen a few threads related to others collections so thought I would share my own 'current' collection. I used to have a whole load of legacy Thinkpads (numbers followed by letters) but unfortunately I sold a whole load of them off during the family financial crisis of last year.

Any how, I have started the collection again and this is where I'm up to so far: (sorry for the not so great image quality. I will re-do this during better light, or find my flash...)

Image

From left to right:
Back: T60, T23, T20, T20
Middle: R60e, R60e, X24, X20
Front: X220, T410, 701c

A Thinktower:

Another T20 that couldn't make the photo shoot on the table as it's in constant use, it serves two purposes, one it acts as a semi-pointless web server (http://t20server.thevdm.com), secondly it keeps my partners grandmother warm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Image

I also forgot to add in the A20m as seen here > http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=115604 as I appear to be going senile, despite being a smidge under 30

Other non Thinkpads that weren't included in this gallery, but reside in my house:
Dell Latitude E6220 - Partners laptop
Dell XPS L502x - My old laptop, has seen better days, is only just clinging onto life
HP 510 - Running Debian, lives on top of the digital piano for recording MIDI in soundgarden
Toshiba 100cs - Comes out occasionally to remind me how thin laptops are today

New additions arriving regularly, so updates will come along every so often.
Daily use: X220, T410
Collection: 4xT20, T23, T60 (Pinkpad for my daughters), X22 (password locked), X24, 2xR40e, A20m, 600e, 701c

That would have been me, it's actually bright pink (not the best photo) as I have 2 daughters who are pink mad. The T60 is currently being set up for them with a child friendly linux distro, some educational stuff and some games. :D

Edit: It's not a Thinkpad T60, it's a Pinkpad T60!

There's a 600E somewhere in the postal system working it's way towards my door at some point in the near future. I've wanted a 600E for a while, next one to search for is a 770*

Cool and it is alive - ALIVE!!!
I have the same T20 but some tuned up - to 900MHz and 512Mb. But it is rarely used. I think using barebone and headless X60/x61/x200.... mainboard for a such server is more power (eco) friendly. But this must be proven in experiment;)

All other Thinkpads and Pinkpad are lovely and cool too.

PS
I know that this disease (collecting Thinkpads) is not curable 100%. And i feel myself very ill too ;) I don't know why, but i have ordered W700 couple of days ago. Someday i'll make photo of my Thinkpads, but not now.
Worse thing - i feel that i have infected one of my coworkers ;(

It is a disease, there's also a floppy drive for the 701c in the postal system somewhere and I'm watching an IBM PCMCIA CD drive on ebay, again for the 701c.

I suppose any use is better than no use, one of my T20's has aged terribly so will eventually be re homed into a photo frame with an infra red reciver for a remote, a wifi connection to the NAS and an external amp board and speakers (connections or built in). I'm then going to set up some sort of jukebox software on it.

So many ideas and so little time!

The grandmother's seeping into the T20; the webserver's dead.

~$ ping t20server.thevdm.com
PING t20server.thevdm.com (81.174.145.54) 56(84) bytes of data.
