I have X201 and once upon a time i decided to make it IPS frankenpad - LID from X200 with CCFL + LCD from X200 tablet. And i have done this. But when i finished building and started testing all went wrong. Memory tests (MemTest86) sometimes hang up. And when i decided get WEI mark - it have shut down. I have repeated this and shut down again. I have installed tpfancontrol... and have seen how CPU temp take off from 60 to 109 in a couple of seconds. Something is wrong and i decided to disassemble this poor ThinkPad completely. And what i have found:http://postimg.org/image/nmexo73kp/
- protective film haven't been removed from CPU's thermal grease and more thermal grease have been placed on CPU itself
- additional thermal gum have been placed for PCH. Previous owner (servicemen) haven't read HMM and this i5 560M X201 have been sold from ebay.
I have fixed it and now it is working well (but some fine tuning needed to be done).

Other bad story and funny pic have been posted in X301 thread some weeks ago - WLAN module in WWAN slot

Once upon a time i wanted to make quad core mod on W500 - but can't :( I have modded Q9000 like described by el-sahef there and there make some soldering on W500 mainboard but no luck. Some time ago i have got power brick for W700 and decided to check that modded Q9000 (some pins have been removed) and it started and works well... But BIOS Screen is very funny :)

The beauty and the beast 2 3 4
Main actors - W700 and X301.
May be W701(ds) is more adequate to be the Beast but i haven't one ;(
May be other Thinkpad than X301 can be real beauty in this pair - so you can answer with your pics for this post.

Nice. I really want to get an X301 to play around with. I already have the msata to 1.8" adapter, slim 1TB HDD, and ultrabay just waiting for it.

I just read up on the X201.

What a nice machine. I really love my T410, but that machine is very tempting and the prices on e-bay are cheap.
