Time for a photo update. Got 16GB of RAM into my W530 today. She's running good. T420 is still going everywhere with me everyday and it's still a great little mobile workhorse.
These are my first Core i7 machines, I waited a long time to get them, ever since the first "i" series came out in 2010 been drooling over a Core i7. Still three generations behind but they do everything I could have ever wanted them to do. And the W530 is my first true quad core system. So happy with this machine. These are my third and fourth Thinkpad's. Went through all of college getting my IT degree with a T410i and that machine was great till I sold it. (regret it) Then a T61 when I was wanting another Thinkpad, (gave it to my mom). I don't see myself not buying more Thinkpad's in the future. I have less than a grand invested into these machines. Quite a steal honestly.
Thanks for looking.

Excellent computers and I was considering the W530 for a while, although I might opt for the older W520 to get the proper keyboard full height keys type that is not chiclet. However I currently have nine Thinkpads in the house, so I need to sell a few before I can justify another!

I sold my W530 as it was too much of a machine. Then I just got a W520 due to my needs changing recently. It's just a base 2.2Ghz Quad i7 with 8GB RAM and the Quatro 2000M.

The 420 I'm less impressed with given its a dual core. My two 420/420s are the middling i5-2520/40s and the reality is that for me, they are faster than I need and I think Intel dual core i7s are a triumph of marketing over actual silicon slash technical prowess.
The real quad though... I have a quad laptop as well but I reckon they are overkill for many of us not doing major mathematic work and then, most of us have desktops that we can farm off activities to.
eg. when I was compressing video I would do it from my laptop RDP/VNC to my i7 desktop so I freed up resources on the laptop for other stuff.
Still, the Lenovo Tx20 series. Love hate relationship... like the laptops in general, the 900p screen gets to me. The less said about the 768p screens the better.

Very nice looking machines you have there. Also looks like they have some nice performance as well.

My T420 has switched roles with my W520. My W520 is needed not at home so it's my go machine and my T420 hooked up to my 24" monitor is my home web surfing and Rasberry Pi ISO machine. The T420 works great at home.

Things about computers is that it's always changing. "Donated" my faithful T420 to my brother-in-law since he was obsessed with netbooks but was always complaining about lack of power. Now just have my W520 as my main PC. I also have a E550 but that machine doesn't count as a Thinkpad. I haul my W520 to work everyday and my coworkers love the amount of IT work I can get done. I have a quad i5 Dell desktop with 16GB RAM and multiple HD's and dual 24" monitors at my desk. Bring my W520 in everyday and use it as a third screen and to remote into the servers and run VM's when my main desktop is taxed. This machine is so good I'm itching to buy to find a maxed out i7 version as a backup for the future.
