Re: My X-series and ultraportable TP collection
Very cool collection. Consider making the image smaller so that it does not stretch the screen so much, and people with standard resolutions can grasp the full beauty of your Thinkpads.

Very nice collection. The X60 design is still the best one.

Very nice collection. You have a couple of my personal favourites - most notably 570E - when it comes to ThinkPad design.

Re: My X-series and ultraportable TP collection
Thank you all !
X-series Thinkpad are the only laptops I own since 2004, as I've always been fond of this category. Small, light and long battery life have always been my main criterias when it comes to laptop computers.
I've personnaly used and abused a few of the machines you see on these pictures (especially the X31 and the X60, while at university and while traveling), I bought other models recently cause I love to restore and revive these great and sturdy machines
My X31 will forever be a great companion, and surprisingly linked to many great traveling memories.
Been doing a lot of backpacking through Europe when I was in my 20's, and my X31 was always in my bag, she never let me down !
I remember beeing writing an email in Sweden in 2006 or 2007 with the X31, in Luleå, to tell family I was ok. It was in July, midnight, and the sun was still in the sky. I remember this specific episode with my X31 in my mind
I still frequently use the X60 (as a ssh console, to monitor my servers) and the X40 (to write / type mails while listening to music)/
I also own another X31 with a dead and removed screen, used 24/7 as a light linux server (basically a Tiny tiny RSS server).
I didn't include the X30 in the picture cause I wanted to show sort of an evolution (X30 share almost the same design with X31).
Incoming soon to this family : a X24, unknown state, bought 10€...Should be in the mailbox in the upcoming days.
On my to-buy list now :
- Thinkpad 240X (or Z if I'm lucky enough)
- Thinkpad X301
- Parts to fix my 701C, this tiny black box is an ultra-portable in my opinion

Yes, I think many of us here miss the 4:3 ratio...ajkula66 wrote:X220 seems so wide when standing next to the rest of the batch...

There's also a (very rare) I series 1124 which is a grayish version of 240Z. I've only heard of one example on this forum...On my to-buy list now :

X301 is a fine machine and can be had for reasonable amount of money nowadays.
As for the parts needed for your Butterfly...good luck. I've given up and sold mine years ago...that thing got more ooohs and aaahs than any system I've ever owned...

I'd take a HD or WXGA LCD over a XGA, especially these days where websites are more fluid and can spread out more.kobalt wrote:I think many of us here miss the 4:3 ratio.
I've always preferred the trackpadless aesthetic of the older machines.

Re: My X-series and ultraportable TP collection
Actually, the photo is about 10% too wide even on my 39.5" 3840x2160 monitor!dr_st wrote:Consider making the image smaller so that it does not stretch the screen so much, and people with standard resolutions can grasp the full beauty of your Thinkpads.
And I am the idiot who was stupid enough to sell it, all because I felt "guilty" about owning so many laptops. Adding insult to injury, I sold it for much less than its worth! It was easily my biggest mistake ever as a computer collector.ajkula66 wrote:There's also a (very rare) I series 1124 which is a grayish version of 240Z. I used to be a huge fan of the X Series Thinkpads like the OP, until I discovered that I couldn't live with 1024x768. I have owned the following X Series and pre-X Series ultraportable models:ZaZ wrote:I'd take a HD or WXGA LCD over a XGA, especially these days where websites are more fluid and can spread out more.

The S30 was a major letdown. The X31, X32, X41 tablet, X61 tablet and X200s were quite disappointing as well. But I loved the rest.

Very nice. I've only recently begun to experience the appeal behind that which is the ultraportable X series...
