Somehow I found a HP Compaq NX6215 15" 4:3 laptop that has been NOS for 11 years. Nobody has touched it. Ever.

DVD-RW drive built-in. Sorry to tell you this but that's not whats new anymore.

Image

FireWire, care to share some USB 3.1?

Image

When we actually cared about obscure card formats that weren't SD?

Image

Look at me I am so serviceable.

Can't look at those fresh "Designed for Windows XP" stickers without reading the fingerprint authentication guide first!

Time to put in a box, wait 40 years, and watch as it is worth millions. Or nothing. Time will tell.

I would figure it would be in good condition for sitting in a closet for 11 years :) . Not even the palm rest protective plastic have been removed.

I remember servicing these after they had taken quite a beating in urban educational environments. They took the torture pretty well, all things considered, and we only retired the lot of them after they'd been abused for about 6 years.

Mine was abused soo much. By air.

I booted it up to see what would happen. It went right to the Windows XP setup screen. Remember this Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1kBtlfJBGc. I sure do! I shut it down because setting it up would be the 8th deadly sin.

On a sidenote: Younger me had this crazy plan to installing Windows XP for free before I knew that not all free downloads are from megauploads.com. I played around with some T42s and figured out that putting a XP MCE* Disc 1 in then waiting until there was exactly 33 minutes left. Then I would swap the discs, put in the key from my trusty A31 sticker, then put in disc 1 again and install. For some reason it installed Professional SP1. Then the rest of my afternoon was updating to SP2 then to SP3. Oh boy was that slow on a 40gb 5400RPM drive :) .

Interesting comment about urban educational environment abuse. Very interesting discussion about the ThinkPad experience with this in the new ThinkPad book.

I have one of those under my desk. Not as nice as yours though. I don't know what to do with mine though.

Donate it. I'm sure there a worthy cause somewhere.
