My "New" HP Elitebook 8460p

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Mon Nov 27, 2017 11:26 pm

This is a my resent buy, an HP Elitebook 8460p I bought it for video editing as I'm gonna get back into video editing with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 and need a computer that doesn't render videos in 3 plus hours like my 2015 i7 13 inch MacBook pro does with iMovie... I've used Sony Movie Studio in the past and I know how to use it.... I'm looking to upgrade my computer with a top of the line second gen i7 quad core and 16 GB RAM (only if 8GB isn't enough) gonna upgrade it to the 1600x900 display along with the AMD Radeon 6000 series graphics card if it doesn't have those already... Everything looks flawless at this point except the keyboard light is cracked and doesn't pop out very well and the e-sata port is busted off but I can live without both of those if it has the specs I'm looking for

How come you don't use your T440p for video editing? It has better specs than the 8460p or, does the program you use for editing need AMD graphics?

Good laptops

These seem to be the least ugliest business laptop at the time unless you consider the MacBook as a biz machine.
Anecdotal, because because customers & clients of mine seem to have their eyes drawn to it more than ThinkPads & Latitudes.
I like the brushed aluminium finish on them, even if they get scratched up, they seem to age better over time.
I do miss the middle scroll button on these machines, but typically Elitebooks tend to be cheaper on eBay than competitors.

Have fun with your new laptop!

Yes Sony Vegas 13 prefers cuda instead of opencl for rendering videos I've tried an AMD rx 480 and rendering times increased and with a newer Nvidia card they increased even longer... The best GPU to use is the 6000 series AMD cards so i picked this up.. no thinkpad ever came with the correct Nvidia cards (GTX 600 series?) so couldn't get a Thinkpad (but Nvidia cards are slower anyways for this program) and besides the macbook pro 15 2011 this is one of the only laptops i could find with AMD 6000 series graphics as they are not common

I see, Sony Vegas 13 renders faster with AMD 6000 series cards. I've always wanted to try out an Elitebook 8460p. They seem like nice laptops.

Since it's an almost maxed out it works pretty good... I wanted to put the 8460w motherboard in it but I didn't know if the firepro M3900 would work the fastest or even the best but mine has a quad core i7-2720qm second gen and amd 6470M 1GB with 1366x768 display although i may put in a 1600x900 screen soon mine also has windows 7... I don't export higher than 480p since it would take me longer than overnight to upload to anywhere online since my upload speed is only 500kbps absolute max

Also when i get a capture card the 8460p will become my machine for rendering when live streaming and converting dvds and vhs to files
