A T420 with macOS High Sierra
A T420 with macOS High Sierra
Hi all,
Got some pretty cool news. Found a ThinkPad T420 on eBay for $63 shipped. It is a complete rig, came with i5 2520M, 8GB RAM, 1600x900, 128GB Toshiba SSD, and 90W charger. Has HD3000 graphics. The issue was a corrupted Windows 7 install so looks like the guy didn't know how to fix or had time to deal with it.
seller's picture, needs some cleaning up
also had this tape and stickers on the lid
And all cleaned up! It seems to be missing the little sticker for the LEDs on top of the case. Anyone know where I can nab that? Thanks.
front
rear
side
other side. Ditched the DVD/RW drive with a spare 2nd bay SATA caddy and tossed in another SSD in there.
Bottom
dat Sierra Gobi card
Even has the NMB keyboard! Does have some shine on it though. Replaced the touchpad sticker as well
superior OS
modded BIOS with WiFi whitelist removed. Added a Dell DW1510 WiFi card
desktop
specs
programs galore
installing high sierra on the other SSD
a helper! Used this guide https://josephsiu.com/convert-windows-1 ... gh-sierra/
macOS 10.13.6 desktop

Oh God! That flash! That touchpad! I'm both blind and nauseous now.

I am too!!
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: A T420 with macOS High Sierra
Nice to see another T420 on High Sierra
I have to wonder though, Vanilla or patched?
I have my T420 quad booting by running a token W7 (purely for just two programs!!), a flavour of Linux, High Sierra AND Mojave. I had my WWAN slot going begging (empty), so slapped in an mSata and that gave me 3 SSD drives. Topped it off with an i7 and 16GB, 1600mHz RAM. Tidy little machine spec and performance wise.
I may have a complete lid available soon as I have all but a complete rebuild kit ready for my T420. Just missing the base plastic/chassis shell.
So far my X201, X220, X240, T420, T430 and M73 all run OSX. I also have 3 Tower machines running OSX.
Still haven't quite found the necessary time nor tools to try and install OSX on my L412, although I am not so bothered about that.

I did a vanilla install, didn't use Multibeast/Unibeast at all. Does your T420 have the FHD mod?

Planning on the FHD, but ATM, no it does not.
Been too busy messing with other things to get near the T420, other than to use it.
Did you find the DSDT for the T420 per chance? Lots of install guides, only one really decent one out there and although not T420 specific, works just fine
