My Bluepad
My Bluepad
I thought i would post my z61t and a bit about it.
I bought two of these z61t's in pretty OK condition on ebay, they came with docks. I originally bought them just to try out a thinkpad advance dock i have, which later died violently on me when the internal power delivery caught fire and the short killed one of the z61t's, but thats a whole other story.
That one has since been used for parts to be used on the still functional Z61t.
And i painted it blue:

I used turquoise rustoleum universal metallic spraypaint.
https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catal ... pray-paint
A few coats on the cleaned and scoured lid.
I dont dual boot but i swap the SSD between a 120gb one with Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on it and a 500gb one with Xubuntu 16.04 on it. I use both OS's about equally, all it has to do is download videos and music.

And then heres the desktop on Xubuntu including specs:
Also, Hi! Im not here often, my first post was ages ago about my Thinkpad 701c.
I am sad to say that 701c has entirely died. Multiple issues built up until it wasnt reasonable to repair it, the mainboard with the AMD X5 has been saved but the rest is gone.

Re: My Bluepad
Z61t is already an uncommon device. That's definitely a unique sight. The metallic looks a lot better than the "colorware" colored ThinkPads. Doing just the lid is very tasteful.

Re: My Bluepad
Somebody has a good eye for nice colors. I might pick some up and do it on a TP with a really bad lid.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

I'm not a fan of laptops with eye-catching colors, but I have to say the paintjob looks great.

Re: My Bluepad
Big thumbs up here for the colour and finish! Much better than all the other coloured laptops I see around the internet and stores etc.

Sorry, im a bit new here and im not sure how this site handles image resizing.dr_st wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 11:59 pmIf you don't want to resize your pictures to a manageable size manually, please learn to use Imgur thumbnail codes:

From my experience even on a 1200x800 screen everything looks fine. Though i imagine on some older browsers and lower resolution screens there may be an issue.
Ill be using gthumb in the future i reduce images to non stupid sizes that my iphone takes.
Thanks, its one of the more successful paintjobs ive done on a thinkpad before. I had a 15" T42 i once painted bright glossy yellow, and it looked real cool, except that the paint stayed tacky for its entire remaining lifespan.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:13 amSomebody has a good eye for nice colors. This stuff was slightly tacky for about a week but is now very dry.
I also did an R52 with white wood paint white it was snowing outside but we dont talk about that.
I like the weird thinkpads, my other ones are all very non conventional models. I was debating going for a glossy metallic chrome like finish and polishing it and everything to replicate the titanium lid thinkpad, but thats kinda lame. A blue one was more appealing and the paint was cheaper.
Ive done other parts of a thinkpad in the past but the rest of this one is in pretty good shape, i mainly had to cover up the shadow of an old apple sticker the previous owner had on it and a big square glue spot.
It also does way better in the sun in the backseat of my car than it did when it was black.

Thank you , i think next im gonna get something old and cheap like another 60 series or a bit older for windows 2000 compatibility and then paint it late 80's desktop beige.Shredder11 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 8:19 amBig thumbs up here for the colour and finish! Reminds me of this ancient Thinkpad 700C , which is said to be a German variant.

Re: My Bluepad
It looks fine because I went and edited your image tags to use large thumbnails rather than the full-size images. The full-size images were about 4000 pixels wide and would not look fine on anyone's screen, because, alas, this forum software does not handle automatic resizing.
Even if it did, it would still most likely force the client to download the full image (several megs) and then waste cycles resizing it. Not sure it's done server-side.
Always better to use a thumbnail feature built into the image host. Imgur has a very good and easy one, with multiple sizes to pick from. Read the documentation in my link.
I found the Z61t a very interesting model at the time of its prime; it looked so much nicer than the ugly T61 14" wide and was shorter and more compact as well. Unfortunately, the platform has not aged well (it's the same limitations as a T60), and to add insult to injury, it does not even have an ExpressCard slot (which the T60 has), so no USB3.0, no fast SD card readers, etc. Also no IPS screen options. Pity.cchisholm wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 4:27 pmI like the weird thinkpads, my other ones are all very non conventional models. Re: My Bluepad
That is a really neat paint job - Typically i enjoy the black chasis of the Thinkpad line, but this is really cool. Great work!

Re: My Bluepad
Now I started looking for a nice orange, yellow or cherry red rustoleum on Polish market. Have almost a dozen of titanium lids to refresh, and those colors are something very desired by me
Too many thinkpads not enough time!

Re: My Bluepad
I've never even seen a can of Rustoleum paint here in my country.
Is it a really good brand of paint?
