Electric Blue TP 600E... Whadya think?

Well... I got creative with the old 600E. About 5 coats of Krylon Plastic Fusion later, this is what happened...

>P3 500Mhz CPU w/600x Fan & heatsink
>256MB PC-100 SODIMM
>Hitachi 8x DVD-ROM

Future plans:

>40GB Hard drive
>Another 256MB Ram
>DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive

Dreams:

>A Blue trackpoint cover
>Blue LED rubber feet

How long will that paint hold up?
Looks like a good idea for somebody that owns their own Thinkpad and use it where others are issued one at school or work.

I kinda like it! Very interesting mod. Did you primer it before you sprayed? Clear coated afterwards? Any other kinds of prep?

This Krylon Plastic Fusion is incredibly durable! The handrest coating was peeling anyway (that's what prompted this), so I used liquid "Aircraft Remover" paint stripper to remove the rubberized coating (pretty much fell right off). Used some fine grit snapaper on the rough spots, washed it thoroughly, then gave it around 5 coats with dry time between each coat. I didn't use a clear coat. It has a semi-gloss finish just with the Krylon. The paint really does bond to plastic well. We'll see how long it holds up.

I like the finish per se, however, on a Thinkpad? That is like painting the Guggenheim terra cotta.

Well, dealing with these 600s all the time gets a little mundane, so I thought I would liven it up a bit. Sorry to ruffle the die-hard old schoolers! I saw another post where someon used a carbon-fiber stick on overlay. If I could find one of those I'd be lovin' it.

Absolutley horrid. That's one of the most atrocious things you could do to a thinkpad...but at least you didn't paint it pink.

You should be jailed for such a heinous crime.

I think that, that was just so wrong painting a ThinkPad. The pictures look good but I didn't like that a ThinkPad was painted a different color. ThinkPad's look better in black.

I personally like it. I've always been a fan of blue though.

I've been flirting with the idea of doing similar to my 770 with peeling paint. I wanted to put a black piano finish on it, but i'm clueless how to go about it. I work at a car dealership, and I have a paintbooth and paints at my disposal. Anyone know how to do something like that?

Good ol' rubberized black here - not even piano black.

That said, if you had painted the black things (speakers?) too, it wouldn't have looked HORRIBLE - just bad. Just like your average Dell, IMO.
