I have a ThinkPad T41p, and have recently been wanting to go whole-hog with the desktop replacement thing. I have placed my laptop under my desk, and have it connected to my Envision LCD monitor, Logitech wireless keyboard and USB mouse. I have it connected to my peripherals via a Belkin 2 port KVM switch, which permits me easy switching with my desktop. This has increased the real estate on both my electronic and physical desktop, and given me (the comforting illusion of) increased productivity .
The next step is procuring a docking station or a port replicator, to spare me the arduous task of plugging in the peripherals every time I want to go desktop.
I am trying to decide between the ThinkPad Port Replicator II and the ThinkPad Mini Dock. Does anyone have any suggestions in this regard?
I read that the Port Replicator does not work with the Belkin 2 port KVM switch. Also, I understand that you must use the USB ports alongside the laptop if you are using more than one peripheral. These two negatives (despite its lower price) are pushing me toward the Mini Dock.
Does anyone have any feedback (negative and positive) regarding the Mini Dock? KVM incompatibility is definitely a deal breaker, so any experiences with that aspect are of great interest!
