BOY, do i have a bunch of 90's thinkpads..
mostly butterfly's, a few 755's (incl a full working 755CDV), more 760's, a couple of 770's, a 560 (stripped of HDD & battery), a full working 570, and 860 PowerPC, a near new transnote and the stable of new thinkpads..

NONE of which seem inclined to burst into flames and provide the heat for roasting marshmellows on a cold winter night.. :)

yet..

as none have yet heard that the whole thinkpad history and future has been sold to the chinese government, lock, stock and trackpoint caps..

 :?

I have here right now a ThinkPad 380ED which I'm currently using as my main computer, a 760ED that I just rebult yesterday that was originally an SVGA screen model (u3a) but I replaced the screen, mobo and video board to make it an XGA model (u9a) and I also have a ThinkPad 760E that's on loan to a friend of mine. Luckily for me, none of my computers have caught fire yet though my 760ED, after I replaced the P133 with a P166MMX (from a 760XD), it did manage to melt part of a binder I had sat it down on. Needless to say, the 760ED has the original P133 in it again.

In my closet in a storage bin is an incomplete and dissasembled 385CD that left this world for a very worthy cause: repairing and replacing parts on my 380ED. Hopefully someday I'll come across the needed parts to rebuild that machine and use it once again.

I think I already have pictures that show the 760ED in the "Pictures of Your ThinkPad and Desk Setup" thread but I'll try to get a few pictures of everything else just for this thread sometime when I get around to it.

Not only is this not true, but you also imply something negative. Why such bad feelings? We should be lucky Lenovo has taken care of the Thinkpads. :)

Maybe the bad feelings stem from the way that Bill was treated after Lenovo took over. Bill had done nothing but try to help those that own Thinkpads and Lenovo has done nothing but push him away and cut off his special ordering abilities.

This Japanese collector has lots of old (and new) Thinkpads, with nice photos:

http://www.aichi.to/~thinkpad/

Many of the models shown were apparently available only in Japan.

The oldest Thinkpad I have owned was the 365X, which I got from eBay but kept for only several weeks because I didn't like it. Didn't bother to take any photos of it.

Here is my old 700 PS/2. It actually weighs almost twice what my T43 does thanks to the huge battery :o

It's amazing how far we've progressed since the old days. I remember how the 486 was the high end back then, now we have single CPU chips that outperform the supercomputers of the 80's and parts of the 90's. It's also funny to think that devices 2 or more times the size of the 700 were once considered portable. I wonder what we'll have in the next ten years.

I still have my 701C Butterfly Thinkpad from a little over a decade ago. It still boots to Windows 95, has great battery life, and can connect to the internet. I used it quite a bit for over 5 years. :)

I have a fully functioning 760CD that was given to me about three years ago. I've used it quite a bit and it's served its purpose well, however, I've recently upgraded to a 600E. The 760CD just doesn't cut it anymore for what I want.

When it was first given to me I searched the net to find some reviews on it. I just about fell out of my chair when I read a review that said it retailed for about $8,000.

I wonder how the 760ED would react to a P1MMX 300Mhz being shoves into it.

LMAO
760ED All the way.

FEEL THE BURN! From the bottom of that particular laptop... right in the bawsack! eek

No clue about a 300mmx but I could easily say that a 166mhz MMX cpu will run just fine in a 760ED. Simply pull the chip from a dead 760XD or XL and put it in the ED and you'll have a much faster (and much hotter to touch) computer.

I've gotta get some pictures of my 730TE up here... got the hardside case and the printer (Kodak, no less) and all that jazz. Still works a treat, boots windows95 with Pen Services; has only a couple bright spots on the screen. File swapping is easy, just power down and the whole HDD pops out as a type 3 PCMCIA card and goes right in my R30. Gods help you if you get stuck at a DOS prompt though.... (Actually, it will confirm the option if you leave it alone for about 5 or 10 minutes...)

Here are some shots of my 701c "Butterfly" Thinkpad. :)

https://webfiles.berkeley.edu:443/chris ... kpad_Pics/

There it is, side by side with my T43. There are also some pics of on of my old RS/6000 system disks. I don't think photographing the whole stack would have been feasible; I used to use that on an RS/6000 from 1993. Fun times were had by all. ;) :)

Sorry about the resolution, but I had to take them with my RAZR's camera as my Nikon CoolPix has decided, after 3 years, to retire.

What I'd give to have the chance to go back 9 or so months and not sell my old 760XL...it was a nifty little lappy, and my first foray into notebooks. And I liked how the keyboard tilted up to provide the nice angle for typing. Pic at the following link:

Here's the 760ED I used to own that I upgraded to a 166mhz Pentium MMX before ultimately getting rid of it:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-11/ ... d_palm.JPG

Here's a picture of my two ThinkPad 350c's together:

Here's a closeup of the 350c that's turned on:

Here's the label on the underside of the one keyboard that's more comfortable to type on than that of the ThinkPad 600E; I suppose this is as close to a Model M as it gets for a laptop keyboard:

Because of this site, I started scouring ebay.

I've got:

700C - with battery
701C - with case, docking port, pcmcia cd-rom drive, and extra hdd
750CE
750CD
760ELD - was sent this instead of an xd
760XL - in perfect shape
760XD - in rough shape
770ED - owned since new
T43 - owned since new

Image

I'll find pics of the others
