I'm also into the good ol' thinkpads. They run, and run... You guys own any docking stations for these babies?

Image

In the picture you see my nice 755CX. Works as a gateway. To the left, there is, well... it looks like a space ship but it is definitely a dock. Never tested it, though. I'm unwilling to stop at four years of uptime. :)

Is that really really bad lighting in the first one or is it actually that color scheme, if it is it's actually very cool.

In fact, it's really really bad cam. I wish I had a true hardware to take pics, but unfortunately, I don't have... :(

I will see If I can take better pics this week. :)

And... Yes !!! It's cool ! Not my kinda thing, actually, I wouldn't have done that by myself, but it came like that, so, I won't change it, it's too old now ! :D :P

Thx. :)

Wow, interesting. At first glance, it looked like a lighting issue. I had to reread your post to realize that it was in color.

I don't know if I would want to paint mine, or even have someone else do it.

Thx for your welcome :)

Yes, it's true, it's not the light.

I'll try to upload pics as soon as possible. :)

Awesome, another 701 owner; I still use mine often! :D

But, wow, where did that Bumble Bee scheme on the 701 come from? Or am I missing something or is it not yellow?

:)

I didn't bought this machine new, and when I got it, it was like that. I don't know who did that, but it's a good job, considering the age of the lappy, and the quality of the paint, after all these years. I bought it 40€ on internet 2 years ago, third hand, or more...

It has been totally repainted from head to toes ! :D

From red to black, with yellow.

I cleaned it totally yesterday, plus key by key (i hadn't done it yet).

The nitpick is that I don't have floppy disk drive or other means to reinstall an OS on it. It runs Windows 95a, but I'd like to put Windows 95 OSR2 or WinNT 4.0. I have a PCMCIA Ethernet card, but don't have drivers for it under Win95.

I see you're all interested to view it. I will try to take pics this week. :)

I will ask if it's possible to have pics of my 600E. You'll see it's like a new machine too. ;)

Have a nice day. :)

I just re-discovered a 350C, a 2625 (only says "ThinkPad" with no other designation), and a 760E that I had laying around.

Hi !

:o I have received a thinkpad 560 yesterday ! :)

It's a 2640-10U model.

Pentium 120
24 MB EDO RAM
2GB HDD
12.1" LCD DSTN 800X600 256 colors

OMG, it was not clean at all.
I have opened it to clean everything, the was some mud on the bezel, something like sand in the laptop, and dust everywhere... The keyboard was very dirty, and the rear of the laptop seemed to have some traces of glue or something else, I cannot identify...

A lot of things to do to give it a second youth :!:

Today, cleaned, it appears to be in a pretty good shape, but you see it isn't new.

I'd like to wash the keyboard, but I don't know exactly how to do.

Should I wash it like the trackpoint ? With toothpaste ?

I hope I will be able to upload pics quickly ! :P

Wow, I thought my 770 was old...

It's nice to hear that ancient ThinkPads still have a home today :)

I really don't like older laptops with LCDs that are much smaller than the bezel.

WarMachine, you thinkpad is HOT  in a COOL way 8) . When you first posted the pics I thought the lighting/camera was giving the red - yellow appearance, it's nice to see it's actually painted that way!

Wow, this reminds me how long it's been since I've seen an AZERTY keyboard... Also how small the old LCDs were!

Long live the IBM ThinkPads!! (yes, I said IBM on purpose)

Hi ! :)

Everything works ! :)

The 701CS has Windows NT 4.0 (but I must reinstall Windows 95 OSR2, because I don't have all the drivers)

The 560 has Windows 95 OSR2 installed on it, and I have installed Office 97 too.

The 600E has Windows XP with SP2 up-to-date.

Nice to see that old machines can still boot, and that we still can work with them.

Don't know what Thinkpad will be the next... I've seen nothing for the moment.

Well, I must sell my Dell to buy a T23 or an X30, but they are not vintage machines nowadays ! :D
Viva La France
Merci !!! :thumbs-UP:

[SAD]

Yesterday, I have had a talk with my ex-girlfriend on MSN. She had a iSeries i1200 (Celeron 500, 96 MB RAM, 5GB HDD, SVGA DSTN 12" Screen)

I asked her to take pics of the laptop and she said the screen was dead, so, she threw it...

Grrrr !!! :banghead:

RIP the poor iSeries.

I'm so sad. She could have given it to me, I would have repaired it. :(

Yeah, I know, it's not the best IBM around there, but it's rather rare, and it's a shame to throw it. Sure she didn't keep the HDD... :!:

I have been thru numerous Thinkpads over the years, but I still own-and never will sell-my very first one-a 701C. I remember back in 1995 when the 701 was released and the stir that it caused-I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen! Of course, they were way out of my price range at the time-I remember them selling for close to $4000. Fast forward a year later, I was out of college and had just started working at the bank where I am today. I forget now where I found out about it, but at the time IBM had discontinued the 701 and the prices had dropped. I picked up a brand new 701C 2630-2TU with 540MB hard drive for $1600 shipped-which I thought was an absolute steal!

It still works flawlessly, although the battery is trashed. I have upgraded the memory to 40MB and installed a 2.1GB drive with Windows 95. I have a brand new replacement keyboard still in the sealed box-just in case. I never use it anymore, but it is a part of me that will never leave my hands.
