You either got a lemon or you have a very particular sense of humor.
Seriously, how didn't your Thinkpad's build meet your expectations?

I think I know where you're going with this. Probably you're not too far off.

the top of the lcd bezel was too loose. putting pressure on the lid when closed produced a squeek with some flexing. in addition, the lcd ribbon cable snapped when i would close the lid.
i tried to fix the ribbon cable problem, but i couldn't. if i can't find an acceptable alternative, i might have to buy another x60s eventually and try to reinforce the bezel.
i'm just somewhere between a perfectionist and an ocd bro, and the lenovo thinkpads just don't quite do it. i have seen a few older ibm thinkpads that are impressive (acceptable).

Looks like you got a lemon. Go ahead and buy another, I notice none of those problems on mine.

Since nobody else has complained about these issues, it looks like you got a lemon. Go ahead and order another one. It's good to have the 30 day money back warranty.

my friend reported the same lcd bezel problem.
but don't worry, i can't afford a toughbook. i plan on buying either a merom x60s or a yonah x60s when the merom pushes its price down.

Very interesting; all the X60/s that have come in so far and the one I tried for a weekend didn't have problem. I suspect it was, as has been said again, a lemon. Neither do I think anybody is all that worried either.

put your fingernail on the rim of the bezel and feel how it's loose :p

Tried it and I can't get it to move, with out the obvious result of forcing it to scratch.
Also, of what operational relevance is this if it can only be manifest by putting your fingernail on the rim of the bezel and forcing?

Yea, it moves maybe a centimeter or so. Whats the big deal? Its not going to result in damage. You have to go out of your way to even notice it.

1 Centimeter? It is a little less than that, 5mm~3mm (from eyesight; for the particularly OCD, I can use micrometers/calipers) on the one I tried. Models vary, just like the fan noise and heat that was made into a gigantic theatrical *drama*production for a few months about the T43 and even that was more of a problem on the systems that were affected than this.

Now with that noticed close it and feel around. It doesn't hold together as well as some might like. In fact it wobbles and the bezel has some flex to it and can actually squeek.

Now I see what you mean, but it doesnt bother me, nor is it anything to worry about. And mind you, im usually OCD about such things.

when the lid is closed, the middle of the bezel has the protruding piece which fits into a notch in the base and supports the lid. if you press lightly on the lid when closed, you can hear the bezel squeek. it sucks.

Ah, I gotcha. My suggestion: keep away from dell/hp if this actually bothers you.

Well.
The ULTIMATE sticker is on mine, unfortunately don't have a camera here to show you.
It's the... Batputer......
A Yellow and Black Batman sticker on the cover... it looks.... superb.
The Black ThinkPad (T43p) with the Bat Sticker looks like it REALLY IS the batputer!
Highly recommended!
